Game Expo Eve

Well, here we are, it's Curtis again. The Florida Poly Game Expo is tomorrow and DigiDuel Shootout is just about completed. What a great time to get sentimental and look back at the journey a bit.

These pictures show the original designs for the game's three playable stages. They were drawn by Garrett, who originally came up with the idea for our game. The stage with the giant hole in the middle was designed exclusively with the game's knockback mechanics in mind, feeling like an extra dangerous sumo ring. The stage with the barriers everywhere mostly focuses on the game's FPS mechanics, providing cover from the onslaught of bullets that will likely be coming from all directions. The last stage pits everyone together in an open dome so that players can let loose with our assisting AI in a chaotic free-for-all brawl.

We both loved the idea and workshopped how exactly it would work. We decided on having life, damage, and knockback systems, while letting the players attack each other with multiple weapons and summonable AI allies. After we got a good idea of the game, we decided on a simple visual style and created our software engineering document.

After the software engineering was done, I got to work on the project and made mostly everything in the game, while Garrett designed the basic version of our creepy eye turret, the stages, and the stage voting system before the match begins.

And after hard work, dedication, and many, many hours of coding and testing into the night, here we are.

We can't wait to launch our game tomorrow at the Game Expo and for everyone to play our game for themselves. See you there!
